Fossil Fuels

The new (to us) car we purchased just before our recent break in The Kingdom of Fife wasn't exactly what I had in mind, very nearly but it had to be a diesel. It's a Vauxhall Zafira Tourer with the 2 litre diesel engine, but I wanted an automatic. Petrol automatics, if available, were 60% more expen...

Re: My Carniverous Plant

Sadly, the original carniverous plants are no more. They failed to respond to treatment and are now gone.

Today saw delivery of a new, young Venus Fly Trap. It's just settling in and it's nicely watered and in a sunny place. Hopefully it will thrive like the old departed one used to!

Re: My Carniverous Plant

Progress is slow, but there are now young, new shoots turning into mature capture leaves. The latest addition is a soil hydrometer to ensure the moisture content is optimal. That seems to be having a positive effect.

New picture soon!

Re: Upgrades and More Upgrades

Yet another upgrade, this time in the form of a firmware update. I've been sent one of the new PLM 55-300mm lenses, for the first time with Pentax an electromagnetic diaphragm has been used. This makes for utterly smooth and silent stop down, but this new KAF4 mount needs a firmware update and this ...

Re: My Carniverous Plant

My carniverous plants have not been looking well, so they have now been repotted. Hopefully they will soon be invigorated and ready for a new photo!

A Proper Good Dunking

Nothing like a good bit of English for a title, and that was nothing like....etc. But last night at ADAPS we were discussing compact cameras and members brought in a great array of images to share. At the start of the night I put my Pentax WG-3 in a bowl of water, just as a talking point to show tha...

Upgrades and More Upgrades

It's relentless, but to be fair we have kept our K-5 bodies for quite a few years now. It seems that the progress in terms of MP has evened out, with the K-1 and its 36MP pretty much ideal for me. Sue's K-3 and my awaited K-3 II, both at 24MP, is as far as we need to go with APS-C. We still need the...

Spy, directed by Paul Feig

Rated 15, we watched this with my 86-year-old mum, which was fine until Jason Statham arrived constantly mouthing four letter words. She got used to that, but around the middle of the film her eyes nearly popped out of her head, with this extended version showing a hysterically funny but astonishing...

'Tis The Season - Frankie Valli

A little late for a review of Frankie's new Christmas album, but this CD of all-new recordings was quite a surprise. Released on Rhino and comprising 13 tracks, it's great value and it's also a great record. Although some don't like the fact that Frankie's 82-year-old voice doesn't have the raw powe...

New Wordpress Website

Currently under construction is a new Wordpress website. It's not quite ready yet to unleash on the world, but soon..... The advantage will be a much more user friendly interface, so updating will be more frequent and things can be easily added on an ongoing basis. As a consequence, posts on this fo...

Re: My Carniverous Plant

We also now have a Sundew. This also attracts insects, who fall down the funnel shaped leaves and are never seen again. What I didn't know about carniverous plants: 1. They can be fed small pieces of raw meat. 2. Do not use tap water as it eventually kills them. We now use bottled water and they are...

One Man - The Four Seasons

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOvUe7erC3k&list=FLUQ2L-Cb43yVfv1seVqCdYQ&index=6 Despite this being billed on YouTube as a Mowest era song, it was actually recorded in the last batch for Philips records in 1970. Unreleased, but very much in the style of the last Philips singles such as &quo...

Re: Orange Is The New Black

It's a funny thing, but half way through season 2 we are still, slowly, watching it, but can't really make up our minds whether or not we're enjoying it.

Obviously we must be to a certain extent, otherwise we wouldn't bother, but the jury is still out.
