Orange Is The New Black

This is a curious new series on Netflix. Maybe not so new to you, dear reader, but new to us. We were curious to see what Laura Prepon was doing these days, a long time onwards from our favourite 70's Show..... At first I didn't like it at all and found it very claustrophobic, but half way through S...

It's Too Late Now

This is the autobiography of A A Milne, and is part of my side project to experience a little more of the work of the man who created Winnie-the-Pooh. Those four books represent a very tiny part of Milne's output and are covered by barely two or three paragraphs in his story, but he did them, enjoye...

Jersey Boys - the Movie

"Jersey Boys" the movie arrived today from Amazon and we watched it tonight. Stunning. Clint Eastwood has done a fantastic job with this. It's not a musical as such, it's a drama and it's incredibly powerful, especially when we know it's substantially true. Frankie Valli was very brave I t...

Re: 4G or not 4G?

In Manchester, the connection can exceed 20 Mbps, which is fantastic. Less so as we move away from the city centre.

At home, 4G is intermittent at best, but it's good in Edgeley!

My Carniverous Plant

There's now a nice Venus Fly Trap sitting on the kitchen window sill, and it has to be said there have not been as many flies around as usual. It's had two kills already, and I did have a picture, but to be honest close up on what a Venus Fly Trap does to a fly is not a pretty sight. So after the wi...

Not In The Mood

No, I'm just not in a reading mood at the moment. I suppose too much is going on. It's a shame, but this hits every now and again. What I need is a really riveting book to set me off again. I started to look on Amazon and it just left me cold, so I'm waiting for inspiration! I suppose a series would...

Jersey Boys Movie Soundtrack

Bob Gaudio produced this and has made some very interesting choices. As he says himself, there is not enough music in the Jersey Boys movie to make a soundtrack, so he has melded some original Four Seasons tracks along with the movie music. This is good in that there are some notes and parts that re...

4G or not 4G?

New phones have arrived, so far so good. Is 4G worth the extra cost? Maybe, it has to be said that when the signal is good it excels and I have been getting speeds of around 10 Mbps, which is twice as fast as my home broadband. The snag comes when the signal isn't so good, and it drops to 3G or even...

Nearly a Kindle

I thought I'd try reading books on the iPad, but sadly it's not really me. I still prefer a proper book.

But I do like watching late night TV on it. Netflix rocks!

W90 to WG3

Yes, I thought it was time to pass on the trusty Pentax W90, which has served well above and below water. And who better to donate it to that Amelia Jane, the budding photographer. If she still wants it, then it's hers. She did really well, in fact astoundingly well for four years old, when she used...

Re: Nikon Coolpix A vs Ricoh GR

The result of this was published on ePHOTOzine and it was a close thing, but the Ricoh GR was the better camera. Slightly better lens, faster AF, better colours. Having said that, since the initial testing, I've not used the GR much. Despite a smaller sensor, the Pentax MX-1 came along and it is muc...

Re: Perry Mason

We're now in Season 5 and I've seen the first scenes in an episode that I actually remember from the first airings in the 1960s.

It's all splendid entertainment!

Doctor Who: The Web of Fear

This has been lost for so long, apart from Episode 1 which has been around and which was clearly a horror classic in its own right. Then episodes 2, 4, 5 and 6 turned up and all that was left was to recreate Epsiode 3 using an existing soundtrack plus off-air photographs. In the end, this gets us th...
