A Japanense film with subtitles and a smattering of English where it would be appropriate to the script.
This dark film set in wartime Hong Kong is very well shot and evokes perfectly the atmosphere of a city occupied. It has idealism, love, lust and is nicely acted by all these highly proficient unknowns. It also explores the naivety of youthful idealism and in the end the leader of this young group of people can offer little comfort to his followers. He is as naive as the young girl who plays the lead of the story. Love wins and dooms them all.
