This mammoth set from Rhino records consists of 3 CDs of remeastered tracks plus the real joy, a DVD of live performances from 1963 to 1977.
The music is great and the tracks seem totally authentic to the originals. Errors that have crept in over the years have been corrected and the presentation is spot on.
The DVD is superb. At last we have some real live performances that show the group at its best, together with some fantasic sound quality. "Let's Hang On" and "I've Got You Under My Skin" from Top of the Pops in 1971 are worth special mention. They were part of a 15 minute special live spot, and they really are live. Frankie belts it out and is in great voice. I saw them perform for the first time a week before this recording was made, and I'm not surprised I came away from that concert floating on air...
