The 4 Seasons Entertain You (Philips, 1965)

Post by John »

The Philips albums continued apace and this one introduces a somewhat harder sound. A mixture of originals plus the occasional classic, with well known songs like My Prayer and Somewhere being given a very powerful and very Four Seasons treatment. There is no doubt who it is, but the familiar vocals are presented with an extra degree of maturity here. This is mid-period Sixties and the quality is very high. Familiar tracks would be Bye Bye Baby (Baby, Goodbye) which is so much better than the later Bay City Rollers version, Big man In Town, Toy Soldier.

One oddity is that the alum is available with the same catalogue number but in two different versions. Version 1 features a superb rendition of the doo-wop classic A Sunday Kind Of Love. Then Toy Soldier became a minor hit, so it was put on later versions of the album instead. This makes the first version rather rare. The CD has both, so you can now enjoy the fantastic lost track!
