Frankie Valli Solo (Philips, 1967)

Post by John »

Frankie Valli Solo is the first of Frankie's albums. He didn't leave The Four Seasons, he just recorded solo alongside the group efforts. Some of these tracks actually have the group doing the backup vocals, so effectively they are Four Seasons records anyway. This first album was a result of the phenomenal success of Can't Take My Eyes Off You and that track is featured here. The other tracks are a few other single releases with their B sides and a few powerful ballads that Frankie did as solo spots in their stage performances. He reprises My Mother's Eyes which he performed on stage for many years and was actually his first ever recording (for his Mum in 1952), redone on Live on Stage (Vee Jay) and then done again here.

Individually, most of these tracks are great, but as an album is has a "cobbled together" feel as the style is nowhere near consistent.
