My Carniverous Plant

Post by John » Fri Jul 25, 2014 11:10 am

There's now a nice Venus Fly Trap sitting on the kitchen window sill, and it has to be said there have not been as many flies around as usual. It's had two kills already, and I did have a picture, but to be honest close up on what a Venus Fly Trap does to a fly is not a pretty sight.

So after the winter I'll repot it in a larger pot, and maybe it will grow even more. When it catches the cat we'll know we're in trouble......

I am surprised that you don't have a photograph to demonstrate the awesome size of the plant! We could probably use something similar in our house.

We also now have a Sundew. This also attracts insects, who fall down the funnel shaped leaves and are never seen again.

What I didn't know about carniverous plants:

1. They can be fed small pieces of raw meat.

2. Do not use tap water as it eventually kills them. We now use bottled water and they are thriving! (It seems a while since I last saw the cat.....)

My carniverous plants have not been looking well, so they have now been repotted. Hopefully they will soon be invigorated and ready for a new photo!
