Salt

Post by John »

We are told that too much salt is bad, although also too little is also bad, but what has happened to the taste of food?

Soup, bread, baked beans and many other foods now seem to have reduced salt and therefore reduced taste. So we have to add salt....crazy. And before anyone thinks it's my aging taste buds, all the things that are unaffected taste just the same as they always have. Marmite, Symington's Table Cream, some better quality bread.....yum yum!

Ah well, our one concession is that we now use Lo Salt, with is 2/3 Potassium Chloride and 1/3 Sodium Chloride. Hopefully we don't just use more of it! :)

Just on the subject of salt, I was relecting that pepper gets a poor deal in the thing. P comes before S in the alphabet, so peopper might have a certain expectation of being billed first.

But no, everyone asks for salt and pepper, not pepper and salt. Salt has really stitched up pepper on this.
