Old Fan Syndrome

Post by John »

There's a strange phenomenon that has its roots I think in human behaviour. I call it Old Fan Syndrome.

Let's apply it to a recording artist for starters: Early work, big fan, came on board and loved it. Middle career, still following, but like the early stuff best. Late career, wish they'd stop so we could remember how they used to be. Nothing's as good as it was. Analysis, fan's life has changed and they want to remember their youth as it was. Things are actually no worse, probably better with artist's increased skills, but doesn't work for Old Fan who is stuck in rut of the past. Few new fans because promotion no longer aimed at the appropriate age group. Example: Bob Dylan was bood at a concert where he "went electric" for the first time. So he changed his guitar..... :?:

It can happen to camera makers, even might happen to Apple in due course, any field that is related to creativity.

So, don't fall into the trap of Old Fan Syndrome. How? Stay open minded and receptive to new ideas, move with the times, go with the flow! :D
