The Pentax 17 - Film Strikes Again

Post by John »

For the modest cost of £499, which these days is modest enough when we look at the price of a smartphone, there is this new film camera from Pentax. Nobody else has done this and I'm not sure that anybody else could easily re-assemble the expertise to do so. There are some simplifications, with zone focusing for example and a half frame format. Hence the 17, as the format measures 17mm wide, or two vertical frames to one standard 35mm frame. With the cost of film these days, that may be no bad thing. The increased depth of field will also be of advantage, covering the zone focusing.

So far, no review copy has been forthcoming, although I am itching to try one of these out. There are so many unanswered questions, and so far I haven't seen many online reviewers who have explored the core values completely.

The general coverage though has been very un-Pentax like, and had blitzed the internet completley. Well done for that! I think everyone knows the Pentax 17 is here and it really is unique. Apparently the online Pentax shop has sold out already, so it could well be that Pentax, by listening to what a particular niche wants, has responded well and really hit the spot.

Now, how about a review sample? 8)
