News is now out that the Pentax 645D has been put on the back burner and is no longer a priority for Pentax.

We have got to the point where Digital SLRs are so good that there is a much reduced need for medium format. All the medium format manufacturers are struggling, even Hassleblad.

So now the rules have been re-written with a vengeance. Canon now have on the way a 21MP full frame DSLR. Nikon have the D3 and D300 waiting in the wings. Pentax will now have to follow and get to at least 12 MP and very soon after that maybe even into full frame sensors. Who knows.

Let's hope our wallets are full of plastic!
