White Balance

Post by John »

Auto White balance is a pretty effective tool, but there are limitations.

The two situations where I alter this setting are as follows:

1. Tungsten and Fluorescent Light. These light sources are outside the limitations of AWB, especially tungsten light.

2. Unwanted correction. Sunsets, for example, are red. So we don't want AWB correcting this to make it the colour of noon daylight! Where there is a colour balance in front of you that you want to prerserve, use an alternative detting. Depending on your taste and the subject, this might be the Daylight setting, or the Cloudy setting if you want a warmer result.

In other words, a moments thought and not becoming a slave to automation is the advice here!
