Chloride of Gold

Post by John »

Some interesting things come my way from time to time and the latest is a pack with four vials left of Chloride of Gold.

This was used for Gold Toning of bromide prints, which is one of the ways to make a print last almost for ever. Silver prints do deteriorate, but toning with Gold or Selenium makes them much more permanent. We shall see how it does on eBay in due course.

There are many other toning techniques but most people are aware of Sepia toning!
