The City State of the Invincible Overlord

Post by John »

My intrepid Wednesday night adventurers have been finding their feet in the capital of Calandia, the city of Briarwood. Steeped in intrigue, it hasn't taken them long to get involved in some pretty hefty stuff. Some of it is much heftier than they might be currently expecting.

Of course, if you start off by infiltrating and removing a very high personage's private treasure haul, then someone, somewhere, is going to get ever so slightly upset. The saving grace is that the NPCs have no special knowledge of what's going on and they will have to investigate in due course every bit as much as the players have to. So far, one PC has had a quick fling with a strange character called Captain Smiladon, a magical protection on the existence of the castle has been lifted and an attack by a group of very angry monks has been averted. Along the way putting ghosts to final rest and purchasing properties from long-dead Cavaliers is par for the course.

The Cavalier in question was the legendary Sir Foldri Daydo, who used the power of all his magic items to make a temporal bridge and pass the torch to the adventueres..his trusty sword "Babbler" was the last item to expire before the special protections finally faded away. It seems even magic has a lifespan.

The best thing is that the powerful magicuser will be his own worst enemy. The assumption will be that a powerful rival person has moved into the area and broken in to steal incriminating evidence about him. Hopefully he will becoming paranoid and start jumping at shadows! :D
