Released by an unlikely-named subsidiary of Universal, Hip-OSelect, is a new 2CD set "The Motown Years" by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons.
This was a very exciting period musically for the group, but a dismal one commercially. The music could just blow you away. Familiar tracks from the period will be thin on the ground, but you may remember the 1975 re-release of "The Night" which was a chart success in the UK and a Northern Soul favourite.
I think the finest track on the set is "With My Eyes Wide Open", an utterly spectacular Bob Gaudio production of a song written by Bob Gaudio and Bob Crewe and hiden away on a little known album. This track alone should be listened to, very loud, and maybe you'll agree that this is as spectacular as it gets.
